EVENTS WILL USE A MODIFIED IJF RULE SET

These events are designed to give the best possible experience for the athlete. Coaches and referees should work together to create a positive experience for athletes. 

Below is a list of rules that are being modified from the IJF Rule Set.

TWO mat areas will be used. IJF Contest Area rules apply. At least 6X6M contest area; 3M safety area with 3m between adjoining mats.

NOVICE Divisions for Senior & Veteran are belts below Brown

RULE BREAKDOWN 

• Round robin divisions for all with a maximum of 6 athletes per division.

• Points count first, NOT wins. This means if you win your matches by ippon you get more points! 

• Ippon = 10 points, Waza-ari = 5 points, Hantei = 1 points, Hansoku-make =7 points -- 

• International Judo Federation rules with the following modifications: 

• Shime-Waza is permitted in divisions 13 years old and above in NON-NOVICE Divisions

• Kansetsu-Waza permitted in divisions of 17 years old and above in NON-NOVICE divisions
• NO Shime-waza or Kansetsu-waza in any NOVICE Divisions or Veteran Divisions including judoka aged 60 years old or older.

• Rest periods - Rest periods will not exceed the length of a match. 
• Co-ed competition for children 10 years old and younger may occur depending on the number of entries in those divisions.

• Match times will be 2 minutes for 5 - 6 Year Old Divisions
• Match times will be 3 minutes for all OTHER divisions
• Match times will be 4 minutes for all Junior, Senior & Veteran Divisions

• All athletes must be in Judo Gi to receive awards.
• White & Blue Sashes will be provided. However, coaches / athletes are encouraged to bring their own.
